URL Customization, Accurate Author Post Count & Default Frontend Theme Option

First of all, thank you for the great work on Minn‑Admin , it’s a refreshing, modern, and minimal WordPress dashboard experience.

I’d like to propose a few enhancements that could improve flexibility and usability:

1. Customizable minn-admin URL Segment
   A setting that allows users to modify the minn-admin portion of the URL.
   Additionally, the “Minn is the default admin” option should ideally be restricted to Administrator or Site Owner roles for security and clarity.

2. Correct Author Post Count
   The current Author content count displays the total number of posts across the entire site.
   It would be more accurate and useful if this count reflected only the posts created by that specific author.

3. Default Frontend Theme Option
   It would be great to have Minn‑Admin available as a default frontend theme, offering a unified minimal aesthetic across both backend and frontend.

Thanks for the kind words, and this is a good set. One of the three turned out to be a real bug.

Accurate author post count. Fixed, and it ships in the next release. WordPress gives back the total for a query and then removes the rows the person is not allowed to edit, and Minn was reading that total. So an author saw a count taken from every post on the site sitting above a list holding only their own, and an author who had not written anything yet saw a count above an empty list. Minn now asks only for what that person can actually work on, so the count and the list agree. Authors and contributors get a count of their own writing, which is the useful number for them. Editors and administrators see no change. While fixing it I found a second case: WordPress hides the Privacy Policy page from anyone who cannot manage privacy settings, which left an editor's count one too high. That is covered by the same fix.

"Minn is the default admin" and roles. This one is already per user rather than site wide, so there is nothing to lock down. The switch lives on Your profile and is stored against your own account. Turning it on changes where you land after signing in, and nothing about anybody else. Every user decides for themselves, including a subscriber, and the worst they can do is send themselves to Minn instead of the WordPress dashboard. An administrator can also set it for someone else from that person's user page, and that is gated on the same permission WordPress uses for editing that user, so it needs the rights to edit the account either way. There is no site-wide version of the setting to restrict.

Customizable URL segment. Was this a security concern? Minn Admin doesn't have a separate login surface so it piggybacks on WordPress for that, which you can lock down through various plugins.

Minn as a frontend theme. This one I want to think about. Minn is built as an admin surface, and a frontend theme is a different product with different concerns. Were you interested in using the theme I built for https://minnadmin.com itself?

To clarify the point about Minn is the default admin: the intention is to manage permissions so certain user roles cannot change that setting. For example, Authors or Contributors should not see that radio button at all so upon logging in, they should be directed straight to the Minn‑admin page without the option to modify it. The same applies to the Show toolbar when viewing the site toggle.

Regarding the customizable Minn‑admin URL, what I’m aiming for is the ability to customize /minn-admin with something like /author, /editor, or even a role‑based URL depending on the user’s permissions.

And about the frontend theme , yes, I would truly appreciate it if you could make it available here 💯 👍

I like part of your idea. This is crude mockup, but something I plan to add in a future version. The customizing the URL per role is not something I want to add.

As for a Minn Admin theme itself, it's currently only a half finished WordPress theme as Claude Code is mostly driving all of the content changes through it. So it's not in a release "ready" to use state.

Closing this out. Here is where the three landed.

Accurate author post count. Fixed in v0.29.0. Minn asks only for what the person can actually work on, so the count and the list agree, and authors and contributors get a count of their own writing.

Restricting who can change "Minn is the default admin". Shipped in v0.33.0 as Role defaults, the mockup above. Users gains a Role defaults tab for administrators with two policies per role: what happens after sign-in, and which toolbar the role gets on the public site. An enforced setting replaces the matching switch on Your profile with a short locked note saying why, so an author or contributor no longer sees a control they cannot change. Enforcement is an overlay rather than a write, so changing a policy never erases anyone's saved preference, and putting a role back to "Person chooses" hands each person their previous choice back. Roles that cannot open Minn are marked honestly and are never offered a Minn policy.
