Application Error: Email Seating for >200 Students #86

Seating tool email feature to email students seating assignments for exams returns an application error when attempting to email more than ~200 students at a time. (Feature works in smaller chunks of students to email.) Encountered error when preparing seating assignments for course midterm with 285 students uploaded to seating tool and assigned seats across 2 rooms from master sheet. Steps to reproduce & screenshots of error below.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Set up exam, room(s), and students per instructions in documentation For Course Staff.
  2. Navigate to Students in top banner and use the clipboard icon to assign students automatically to rooms.

  1. Click the email/envelope icon above the table of students to start using the email feature. Fill in the From and check that all emails are listed in the To categories.

  1. Click Send at the bottom of the page. The webpage stays open but browser loads while emails are being sent. After ~1 minute, webpage refreshed to application error (shown below). Returning to the Students tab, the Emailed? column for all students still says NOT EMAILED despite some of the emails being successfully sent before the application error.

Note

Issue was recreated for test/tracking purposes using random rooms/times and one email/name/ID duplicated for all 285 students so I could see emails arriving as browser was loading prior to application error. Once the application error opened, I stopped receiving seat assignment emails.
I received a total of 204/285 seating emails before the application error.
