[Bug]: Sync status in taskbar is not showing actual status

Bug description

Desktop client v4.0.6 on macOS

Since the step to v4.0.0 there are apparently ongoing issues with the status icon. As you can see below, the taskbar icon shows the tiny green hook, while in fact it is syncing/checking for changes:

I guess this might be linked to the unfortunate icon change that was made when going from 3.x to 4.x. If I understood this correctly, the icons should by now look like shown here, but ever since the 4.x version there is something wrong with the icon. (I don’t want to start the whole "icon too small”-diskussion again, but I really wish the icon would still behave as in v3.17.3 )

Steps to reproduce

1. Desktop client installed.
2. Sync, Tray icon/taskbar icon not showing status.

Expected behavior

obviously the icon should show the real status

Hello,

the status in the task bar shows the condition of the account. The status is ok in your case.
As it is checking for changes - and not actually syncing any files - the status is correct.
The more correct way would be that the "checking for status" would not have the sync icon on the first place. this is what is creating the confusion here

So, you are saying there is nothing wrong?

Here, this is how it was before the major version step to v4.x:

This was also not syncing files, just checking for changes....at least thats what it said. Which does make sense IMHO, because otherwise one would not notice that it is checking for changes, unless you click on the icon.

tbh, I'm really not happy with the new icon of the client since the changes introduced with v4.x. It's not only very difficult to read due to the changed icon style, but it has also changed the behaviour. :(

Edit: Are there any security or compatibility concerns when staying on the last 3.x version of the client???

The client is checking for changes every 30 seconds or even more often when using notify push.
there is no reason so show this background operation in the task bar because this has not added value for the user. Syncing is something the user might be interested, but not "maintenance"

obviously. missing security packages and dependency updates. Also all the latest performance enhancements.

Yes, fully agree @Rello – we should remove that case from the dialog as well. The automatic checking does not need to be communicated.
