Hi, I'd like to attempt this — recently completed similar documentation
work on get_check_data.hpp/.cpp (PR #3125).

Note: points_input.c/.h no longer exist in the current codebase. The
functionality now lives in cpp_common/pgdata_getters.hpp as get_points(),
alongside 13 other getter functions that appear to have been merged from
other now-removed input files over time. To keep this PR focused and
matching the original issue scope, I'll document only get_points() here.
Happy to open separate follow-up issues for the other functions if useful.
