fix(search): match model, template and node names whatever their separators - #1124
comfy templates ls --model "Wan 2.2" (also templates get --where model=…)
0 rows
templates whose model is Wan2.2
comfy nodes search "LTX-2.5"
0 rows (or a typo-fallback guess)
a node displayed as LTX 2.5 …
Why
Cloud model search sent the whole --text to /api/assets as name_contains, which the server matches as ONE case-insensitive substring. A query with a space can never match a filename that uses _. Local search already split the query into words and ignored separators (_name_matches); Cloud never did.
Templates and nodes compared raw substrings, so Wan 2.2 vs Wan2.2 and LTX-2.5 vs LTX 2.5 missed.
How
models search (Cloud): a single separator-free word is sent unchanged (same request as before). Otherwise the server is asked for the query's longest word, and every row is checked client-side against all words with _name_matches (name or display name). It pages until has_more is false, capped at 20 × 500 assets, so total counts the rows that pass every word.
templates: _matches uses a _contains helper for --model, --name and --provider: raw substring first, then the same with - _ . space removed from both sides. --tag, --type and --category stay exact.
nodes search: each tier's per-token check goes through _all_tokens_in, which adds the same squashed comparison. Exact-name and prefix tiers are unchanged, so ranking is unchanged for queries that already matched.
A token made only of separators (-) keeps its literal meaning everywhere, rather than squashing to "" and matching the whole catalog.
Tests
Red first, then green:
tests/comfy_cli/command/models/test_search.py::TestCloudSearchTokens (5): a fake /api/assets that filters the way the real server does (name_contains substring, limit/offset/has_more). Covers the spaced name, the version spelling, every-word-must-match, paging past rejected rows to fill --limit, and the single-word request being unchanged.
tests/comfy_cli/command/test_templates.py (7): four spellings of Wan 2.2, a plain Wan prefix, --name "z image turbo", templates get --where model=Wan 2.2.
tests/comfy_cli/command/test_nodes_introspect.py (5): LTX-2.5, ltx_2.5, ltx 2.5, wan2.2 animate must be real matches (close_match false), and - alone matches nothing.
Local runs: ruff check . and ruff format --check . are clean. The full pytest run: 11,916 passed; the 14 failures are all in tests/comfy_cli/test_which_desktop.py and fail the same way on a clean origin/main checkout on this machine (they read the local Desktop install), so they are unrelated to this change.
The narrowed cloud request sends one fragment, and the server matches it as a raw substring, so sdxl base and sdxl missed sd_xl_base_1.0.safetensors. When the narrowed request finds no match, search now scans without the server filter and applies the same client-side rule. A scan still stops at 20 × 500 assets, and total_is_lower_bound is true when it stops early (documented in schemas/models.json). Tests cover both spellings, the empty case, the cap, and a complete scan.
Cloud model, template, and node searches now match words across spaces, hyphens, underscores, and periods. Multi-word searches require every query word to match, even when separators differ.
Cloud model searches can look through additional results to fill the requested result limit when possible.
When a Cloud search reaches its scan limit, results indicate that the reported total is a lower bound.
Searches containing only separators no longer produce matches.
…rators
Cloud `models search --text` sent the whole query to /api/assets as one
case-insensitive substring, so a name written with spaces ("MiniMax H3",
"wan 2.2") never matched its filename (minimax_h3_..., wan2.2_...). It now
asks the server for the longest word and checks every word client-side with
the token-AND, separator-insensitive rule local search already uses, paging
until the server runs out (capped at 10k assets). A single plain word is
still sent as is.
`templates ls` / `templates get --where` match --model, --name and
--provider ignoring `- _ . space`, so "Wan 2.2" finds the gallery's
"Wan2.2". `nodes search` applies the same rule per token, so "LTX-2.5"
finds a node displayed as "LTX 2.5". A token made only of separators keeps
its literal meaning instead of matching everything.

Cloud model search, node search, and template filters now match queries across hyphens, underscores, periods, and spaces. Cloud model search scans paged asset results and marks totals as lower bounds when the scan reaches its page cap.

Summary
Cloud model search comfy_cli/command/models/search.py, comfy_cli/schemas/models.json, tests/comfy_cli/command/models/test_search.py, CHANGELOG.md
Cloud search matches every query token against asset names and display names. Multiword or separator-containing queries use paged requests, with an unfiltered scan when the narrowed search finds no matches. Scans stop at 20 pages of 500 assets. The output includes total_is_lower_bound and adds + to lower-bound totals. Tests cover token matching, pagination, and totals.
Node search tiers 2–5 match tokens literally or after removing supported separators. Exact-name and prefix tiers remain unchanged. Tests cover separator variants and separator-only queries.
Model, provider, and name filters check case-insensitive raw and separator-normalized strings. Tests cover model and name variants, prefix matching, and templates get lookup.

The CLI help for --text still says cloud search is a plain substring match, but cloud search now matches every word and ignores separators. Update the help text; the stale wording is the only open issue.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the three areas the PR changes: model, template, and node search matching. It also names the core behavior, which is matching names regardless of separators. The changeset implements separator-insensitive matching in cloud model search, template filters (--model, --name, --provider), and node search, plus tests and a schema field. The title does not mention the cloud fallback or the 20-page scan cap, but those are secondary details. The title uses the conventional fix(search) prefix and is a single sentence.

Explanation
No ADR conflict or new architectural decision was found. ADR-AUTOMATION-0003 permits additive fields, and the new search field uses the existing output schema. ADR-COVERAGE-0010 is Proposed directional guidance for workflow coverage, not model search.

The cloud search asked the server for the query's longest fragment, and
the server matches one raw substring. A word the filename splits with a
separator found nothing: `sdxl base` and `sdxl` both missed
`sd_xl_base_1.0.safetensors`, which local search finds.
When the narrowed request has no match, search now scans without the
server filter and applies the same every-word, separator-insensitive
rule client-side. A scan still stops after 20 pages of 500; the output
now carries `total_is_lower_bound: true` when it does, so a low total
is not read as the whole count.

Update the --text help string to describe the new cloud behavior.
The help text still says "Cloud: substring" and "Local: every word must appear, in any order, ignoring - _ . separators". This change makes cloud search follow the local rule. Cloud now splits the query into words, requires every word, and ignores -, _, . and spaces.
The help output now tells users that a multiword cloud query will not match, which is wrong. Both modes now use the same matching rule.

),
The help string sits outside the changed lines. The cloud matching change in _cloud_search makes it stale.
