feat(models): uploads up to 25 GB resume after a drop - #1125
TL;DR: Model uploads up to 25 GB resume after a dropped connection. Running the same command again continues a saved upload while its session remains valid. Sessions expire no later than seven days after creation; the server can expire them earlier.
Why A large checkpoint currently hits the CLI's 2 GB limit. A connection drop restarts the transfer from zero.
Before / After Both comfy assets library upload and comfy model upload now request resumable uploads and send 64 MiB pieces. Retries query storage for the held byte count. Private saved sessions are tied to the file's fresh hash, path, size, modified time, server, account, workspace and folder. Older servers keep using one PUT, including HTTP storage addresses. A permanent storage refusal discards the saved session and restarts once. Certificate verification and invalid CA-bundle contents, including failures wrapped by an HTTPS proxy, stop immediately on both resumable and older-server single-PUT uploads with fixed TLS guidance that never includes transport exception text. HTTP 408 and transient TLS failures keep the session and query the held bytes before retrying. A closed progress pipe or stream mutes progress without stopping task polling or stored-hash verification, including Rich's broken-pipe exit conversion and later polling notices. The storage task id is emitted before polling (upload_storing on stderr in JSON mode, stdout in streaming mode). Confirmation, workspace approval, block verification and the final stored-hash check remain. The final storage check can take longer than fifteen minutes. The retired asset_upload_timeout code stays discoverable for compatibility with older versions, as required by ADR-AUTOMATION-0003.
The shared progress reporter also changes comfy build push: a broken pipe or closed progress stream now mutes progress instead of ending the push. Its upload protocol is unchanged. This extends the ticket's stated scope; keeping one guarded reporter prevents the same display failure from interrupting either command. The reporter tests cover this boundary, but no build-push command test exercises the broken-pipe path.
Tests cover a fake bucket dropping mid-piece, a killed process and rerun, recovery after the final piece, expired sessions, changed files and identities, private state, credential redaction, and the existing single-PUT fallback. The focused suites run in Linux, macOS and Windows CI. The size-limit test reports a large file size without allocating a multi-GB file on Windows.
Validation: all 398 cases in the two upload suites and shared progress-reporter suite pass locally on Python 3.12. Thirteen new proxy-certificate regressions failed before the latest fix. Both commands cover certificate verification, invalid CA contents and flattened proxy errors, including saved-session status queries and normalized signed-URL redaction. Temporary proxy connection and TLS EOF failures retain their existing retries. A test keeps the real Requests adapter exception conversion and replaces only the network call. Earlier coverage uses real Requests/OpenSSL for invalid CA contents and real Rich rendering for closed or broken progress output during storage notices and later polling. The Rich tests isolate its process-wide stdout redirection. Both commands finish polling and reject a wrong stored hash. Repository diff checks passed. Full tests, lint and builds remain in CI.
Not run: the full test suite, lint or builds locally. No real multi-GB upload or Cloud Storage session was exercised. The ticket's 23 GB killed-process/rerun check remains for staging with the resumable backend deployed; fake-bucket tests do not establish real storage compatibility.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Model and asset-library uploads support resumable transfers up to 25 GB on compatible servers. Rerun the same command with the same file, account, workspace, and folder to resume an eligible upload; saved sessions expire within seven days.
Upload progress reports when storage verification begins and provides a task ID.
Bug Fixes
Transient interruptions can be retried, and uploads can resume without resending acknowledged data.
A closed progress stream no longer stops upload polling or storage verification.
Changed
Uploads wait for storage verification to finish instead of timing out after 15 minutes.
Servers without resumable-upload support continue to use single-request uploads.
Documentation
Updated upload guidance with size limits, resume behavior, and server compatibility.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The CLI adds resumable uploads for asset-library and model files. It stores validated upload sessions and resumes from bytes acknowledged by storage. The changes also update completion polling, task-ID reporting, error guidance, tests, and documentation.

The session store validates identity, file, destination, and expiry. Transfers send ranges and advance progress only for acknowledged bytes. They query storage after uncertain requests and pause after 30 minutes without progress.
The asset-library command loads or saves sessions, transfers verified ranges, and handles completion, expiry, and pause outcomes. Task polling no longer has a fixed overall deadline. Tests cover resumable transfers and the workflow runs the related tests.
The upload_storing event carries a task ID before polling. Error guidance describes paused uploads and server-defined size limits. asset_upload_timeout remains registered as retired. Progress-output failures do not stop polling or comfy build push.

If an HTTPS proxy presents a bad certificate, an upload can retry for up to 30 minutes or restart instead of failing immediately with TLS guidance. This is a narrow edge case with a safe outcome, so it can be handled as a follow-up or fixed before merge.

Addressed both inline findings in 68eb1e6. Also added the suggested corrupt-newer-session test: loading skips the corrupt newest record and selects the older valid record with the same binding. It passes without a production change.
The blanket docstring-coverage warning stays. It identifies no missing behavioral contract; the persistence and retry invariants are documented in SessionStore, transfer and ADR-TRANSFER-0012. No general docstring expansion is included.

The HTTPS-only restriction now applies to resumable and saved sessions; legacy HTTP single-PUT uploads retain their compatibility in 7e21efb. The same commit discards refused saved sessions, reports the storage task id before polling, and stops immediately on certificate failures. The pause-guidance issue was already fixed in 68eb1e6.
The new regression selection failed in 23 cases before these fixes. All 294 cases in the two upload suites pass afterward. The 23 GB staging upload and real Cloud Storage session remain unrun and are listed under Not run. Each inline finding has a reply with its evidence.

Fixed both retry findings in f804f1a. HTTP 408 and transient TLS EOF keep the session and query held bytes before retrying. Certificate errors still stop immediately with fixed diagnostics.
This also fixes final verification being skipped when progress output closes. JSON, streaming and terminal-output cases cover successful verification and a wrong stored hash. The new regressions failed in 25 cases before the fixes. All 340 upload and shared progress-reporter tests pass afterward. The real 23 GB interrupted upload remains unrun and is still listed under Not run.
The docstring-coverage threshold remains unchanged for the reason in the earlier reply; it names no missing behavioral contract. The certificate classifier and guarded task reporting now document their behavior.

Fixed the remaining output failure in 87e4de0. Real Rich rendering now preserves task polling and stored-hash verification after a broken pipe or closed stream, including later polling notices. Invalid certificate-bundle contents also fail immediately with fixed TLS guidance; temporary TLS EOF still retries on the same session.
All 24 new regressions failed before the fixes. All 364 upload and shared progress tests pass afterward. The real Requests/OpenSSL cases use only a loopback TCP listener. The Rich cases keep its real exception conversion and isolate its process-wide stdout redirection. The 23 GB interrupted upload against real storage remains unrun and listed under Not run.
The docstring-coverage warning stays for the reason in the earlier reply: it identifies no missing behavioral contract.

Approve: the round 1 fixes hold at this head, with one smaller gap left open.
I read this as: model uploads up to 25 GB resume from the bytes storage holds, and a refused or expired session, a certificate failure and a closed progress pipe now end or recover as the ticket describes. Reviewed 7bbd40c..8617000.
FYI, for the author: the 23 GB staging upload from the ticket is still unrun and waits on the backend pull request (cloud#18428, open); merge after it and post the result here.
Checked: the new TLS and legacy-address tests fail on the earlier head and pass on this one, and the three upload suites pass.
Not checked: the design page on Notion, a real storage session, and the Linux, macOS and Windows CI, which was still running.
Fixed the older-server certificate gap in 27a8fe1 and documented the shared progress change to comfy build push. All 372 upload and progress tests pass. Six new certificate cases failed before the fix; temporary TLS EOF still retries with a fresh upload. Each inline finding has a reply.
The 23 GB killed-process/rerun check remains unrun and listed under Not run. It still needs the resumable backend on staging.

Handle certificate failures wrapped in ProxyError.
An HTTPS proxy certificate failure can reach _put as a ProxyError. The legacy path may then start a fresh upload instead of showing TLS guidance. _request has the same restriction and may retry for 30 minutes.
Classify wrapped certificate failures in both paths while preserving retries for transient errors.

Agreed. Fixed in bbe16c3. Both upload paths now classify certificate failures wrapped in ProxyError before treating them as temporary transport errors. Certificate verification and invalid CA contents stop after one request with fixed TLS guidance. Temporary proxy connection failures and TLS EOF still retry.
Thirteen new regression cases failed before the fix. All 398 upload and shared progress tests pass afterward.
