Cannot pan around the canvas

Linux Mint 22.3 Kernel 6.17.0-23 generic
Rayforge 1.7.5

Pan doesn't work at all. Not with space bar+ left mouse, not with shift+center mouse button, can't get pan to work at all.

Tried on 2x machines with nearly identical configurations with the same result.

Thanks for the report, and sorry about the frustration. I looked into this and found what's going on.

The short version: The docs say you can pan by holding Space + drag, but that feature was never actually implemented in the code. Middle-click drag is implemented, but it only works with a plain middle-click (no Shift needed).

What I found:

The canvas navigation docs list two pan methods:

• Middle-click and drag
• Hold Space + drag

However, looking at the code in rayforge/ui_gtk/canvas/worldsurface.py, only the middle-click method is wired up (lines 82-88). The pan gesture is a Gtk.GestureDrag bound to the middle mouse button (Gdk.BUTTON_MIDDLE), with no Shift modifier required.

The Space + drag method is entirely absent from the codebase -- there is no key-press handler that temporarily switches the primary drag gesture into a pan mode when Space is held. So the documented shortcut simply doesn't exist yet.

What should work right now: Plain middle-click (mouse wheel click) and drag should pan the canvas. No Shift, no Space -- just middle-click directly.

What needs fixing:

• The Space + drag pan needs to be implemented to match the docs
• The docs may also want to clarify that middle-click pan works without any modifier key

Thanks again for flagging this -- it's a real gap between what the docs promise and what the code delivers.

Bingo! That's exactly the issue! Thanks. I'm trying to migrate from Lightburn to Rayforge and that was really frustrating me to no end (LOL).

Implemented Space+drag pan support. The feature was missing from the code even though it was documented. Now holding the Space bar while left-click dragging will pan the canvas, matching the documented behavior.

This will be released with 1.7.6.

Correcting previous comment — the fix is actually in commit 1e0c2f3, not 1c4a06e8. Space+drag panning is now implemented and will ship with 1.7.6.

Middle-click and drag never work for me in 2d and 3d
