Error in thumbnail generation for tif and dng #683
I got the same error when I tried to upload tiff files.
The logs looked like this: [Nest] 630 - 04/24/2026, 12:00:00 AM ERROR [Microservices:{"id":"cd451b48-5083-40d0-9647-21e294015608"}] Unable to run job handler (AssetGenerateThumbnails): Error: Input file contains unsupported image format
After I run apt-get install -y libtiff6 dcraw it worked perfectly and I got no errors anymore 👍
Can I confirm if this is still the case on the :latest?
Upstream does not appear to do a apt-get install -y libtiff6 dcraw, so doing so here would probably break something else
ghcr.io/immich-app/immich-server:v2.7.5 has ImageMagick coder modules for dng, raw, and tiff.
ghcr.io/imagegenius/immich:2.7.5 has the same dng, raw, and tiff coder modules.
Both have libtiff6.
Neither has dcraw.
But under the hood, this and upstream should be identical and if tif/dng is not working I would be pointing my finger upstream, not to say we could not fix it here, but that would become a local fix and get messy
I am also getting the same error when uploading tiff files. I tried to apply the fix mentioned here but I am using the Unraid container and am unsure if I am using docker mods correctly. The logs after starting immich seem to indicate that libtiff6 and dcraw were installed as part of the container but no changes happen in relation to the failed thumbnails and all recent tiff files have the same error in loading the image.
I am seeing this issue, even after installing the libtiff6 and dcraw packages. Error message is

I can confirm I am still seeing this exact error message as well, currently on ghcr.io/imagegenius/immich:latest

FWIW this was working when I initially deployed my server about a month ago, so I went back to the version with tag version-v2.7.5 (https://github.com/imagegenius/docker-immich/pkgs/container/immich/845641591?tag=version-v2.7.5) and it was able to generate thumbnails for a .tif file without issue.
JWhite97 commentedon Jun 24, 2026
I’m now having the same problem with the latest version. When I use the docker container with the tag version-v2.7.5, everything works perfectly.

this should actually be fixed in 32c656a
please test once published
JWhite97 commentedon Jun 29, 2026
I tried using "ghcr.io/imagegenius/immich:latest", but it did not work for me, so I went back to "ghcr.io/imagegenius/immich:version-v2.7.5".

Just was able to update and can confirm it is now working for me! Thank you for working through this!

Yes this finally fixed it! Thank you so much @hydazz I was worried I was going to have to convert a bunch of images to other file types.

After this change someone tested with DNG files? For me
dcrawis still required.hydazz commentedon Aug 3, 2026
@webysther this seems camera/encoding dependent, DNG works for me.
Do you have an example photo you can provide that 100% raises a error for you?
webysther commentedon Aug 3, 2026
Not really because after installing and generated the problem was gone. In future after removing the MOD this happens again I will report, thanks!
