Describe the bug
It is not possible to use he built-in microphone on a Fujitsu Lifebook E5512 (Alder Lake chipset).
This used to work in older kernels (6.6 for sure) via the workaround described at https://abarry.org/ubuntu-on-razer-blade-15-2022-advanced/ ("Microphone"), using a .sof provided at https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/files/5981682/sof-hda-generic-2ch-pdm1.zip
However, that trick no longer works, most likely due to changes in recent kernels (using 6.18). I've tried to understand the differences in the above .sof files but failed for lack of deeper knowledge.

To Reproduce
- Open audio settings, or start pavucontrol if available - anything that gives visual feedback of the microphone level.
- Of course, make sure the microphone is not muted.
- Tap on the device if headset is unplugged. For comparison tap on the headset microphone if plugged.
- Observed: No visual feedback if unplugged. Plugged works as expected.

Impact
The built-in microphone is not usable. Despite it's often inferior in quality, it is still needed in some scenarios.
Environment
Tested on Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04, 26.04, and the latest 26.10 development snapshot.
The problem was first observed on a home-grown Linux kernel (6.18.y), Ubuntu is only used to have a easily reproducible installation.
- Branch name and commit hash of the 2 repositories: sof (firmware/topology) and linux (kernel driver).
- Kernel: Ubuntu's 7.2.0-5-generic, also seen with v6.18.52 or any other recent
- SOF: (What firmware/topology repository am I looking for?)
- Name of the topology file
- Topology: intel/sof-tplg/sof-hda-generic-2ch.tplg [1]
- Name of the platform(s) on which the bug is observed.

Other information
It was suggested in some reports like #5989 to try alternate module options to snd_sof_intel_hda_common or snd-intel-dspcfg. I've tried a few but no avail.
Another observation: In the Ubuntu sound settings, with a headset plugged, the "Input" shows two options:
- Stereo Microphone - Alder Lake PCH-P High Definition Audio Controller
- Digital Microphone - Alder Lake PCH-P High Definition Audio Controller
with "Stereo" being the working one.
When unpluging, the "Stereo" option disappears.
Trying variants of sof-hda-generic-2ch.tplg from the sof-bin repository makes things worse:
